Nickel, molybdenum, chromium, and tungsten are all components of the superalloy known as Hastelloy. Hastelloy flanges have outstanding corrosion resistance in a variety of harsh situations. Due to their low carbon content, Hastelloy flanges retain corrosion resistance in heat-affected welded joints by minimizing gain-boundary carbide perception during welding. Ferric and cupric chlorides and other potent oxidizing salt solutions are remarkably resistant to it.

Hastelloy Flanges are one of the few that can withstand the corrosive effects of moist chlorine gas. Others include hypochlorite and chlorine dioxide. Hastelloy flanges are excellent for chemical and aerospace furnace operations because of their resistance to oxidizing, reducing, and neutral atmospheres.
